Is kosher slaughter inhumane?

It is considered less painful for the animal to be stunned first using any of several methods before slaughtering the animal. Kosher slaughter forbids stunning of the animal first. This is because the animal must die specifically from the loss of blood, it must not be wounded, and its heart must be pumping in order for the blood to drain properly.

Scared HorseCNN reports that a ban on funding USDA inspections of horse slaughterhouses has been lifted.

The idea of eating a horse is revolting to most Americans, myself included, although I am not sure why. Horse, as you probably know, is not a kosher species of animal. But then again, neither are pigs, and Americans by and large have no problem eating them. Apparently until the 1940s eating horse meat was not quite as uncommon as is today. » read more
